This week, 07 April to 13 April 2014, is Parkinson’s Awareness Week. The theme for the week is “In control”.
Peter, my partner, has Parkinson’s and one thing about that diagnosis is that it can make one feel that one is definitely not “In control”.
Peter drags his right foot along the ground. He is not “in control” of his gait.
When Peter drags his right foot it makes the same noise as when a child doesn’t bother to lift up his or her feet whilst walking – such an irritating sound.
Understanding that Peter has Parkinson’s and is not “in control” of the dragging of his foot makes it much easier to tolerate the noise.
