What’s In A Name?

Lovely lavender-filled doll

Lovely lavender-filled doll

Some time ago, on a now-defunct forum that I belonged to, one of the members was making teddy bears. There was some discussion about suitable names for the bears. Whenever I looked at one of those bears for the first time, I could immediately see what the name was: I don’t mean what the name should have been, I actually mean what it was. It was almost as though the bear was telling me his name. (I know, it sounds weird, or spooky, even.) Sometimes I simply go with my instinct so I would post on the forum what the bear’s name was, (I really don’t mean that to sound as bossy as it does, honestly!) and, generally, the maker of the bears agreed.

At the end of May, I saw a post on Facebook showing a handmade doll and asking people to post suggestions for her name. I’m sure you can guess the next bit. 🙂 Yes, I looked at the doll and immediately knew her name was Lillibet, so commented with the name.

I didn’t think any more of it but later received a notification saying that the name Lillibet had been chosen! I was thrilled. What I didn’t know, but was equally thrilled about, was that Amanda (who trades as Bernard and Miss Mousie), who had made the doll, wanted to send me ‘a little something’! She asked my favourite colours, which I told her. I also told her of my dislike for the colour green!

Imagine how delighted I was to receive the bundle of goodies shown above! They arrived in a lovely pink parcel, sealed with pink tape. Inside the goodies were wrapped in tissue paper and tied with ribbon.

There were two photographs of parts of my doll included, plus this delightful vintage-style label:

I haven’t named my doll because on her bare behind she has my name tattooed! I think it’s hilarious that my name is on her bottom! I’m sure there are many people who will think that’s exactly where my name should be… and now, it is!

Thank you, Amanda, for my lovely lavender-filled doll and for the laughter she brought with her,
